Pub food has changed considerably in recent years. Although you’ll still find plenty of filling and comforting ‘pub grub’, the growth in gastro pubs has resulted in menus that rival and even outdo established restaurants.

There are many great places to eat across Cornwall, but the famous Michelin Guide has singled out these places, and awarded them a converted ‘Michelin Plate’ for their excellent cooking.
St Kew Inn: St Kew, Bodmin
A beautiful stone building with wooden beams, flagstone floors, a roaring fireplace for winter, and a garden for summer? Tick. Local beers in wooden casks and Cornish Rattler cider? Tick. Locally produced ingredients used to create a varied menu of beautifully presented dishes at a fair price? Tick! All this yet still family-friendly and dog friendly? St Kew Inn ticks all the boxes!
The Mariners, Public House, Slipway, Rock, Padstow
If it’s a nice day, take a ferry to Padstow and go no further than the nearby Mariners, where you can pull up a chair on the terrace and enjoy the view of the Camel Estuary. There is a varied menu here, including good vegan, gluten-free, and children’s options. But as seafood is landed nearby, those in the know come here for the delicious whitebait. It is another family-friendly and dog-friendly venue.
Gunard’s Head, Treen, Zennor
Out in the fields, this inn offers a shabby chic setting for dishes made from locally foraged and seasonal ingredients. You’ll find a more eco-friendly and spiritual side to the setting and menu here, and the candlelit bar is a lovely touch. Both the bar and the guestrooms are dog-friendly.
